The Glass Museum: Partner in the European Traver(re)se Project

The Charleroi Glass Museum is proud to participate in the European Traver(re)se project, an ambitious cross-border initiative aimed at showcasing the Franco-Walloon glassmaking heritage and boosting the cultural, tourism, and economic appeal of this exceptional region.
 
Backed by nearly €840,000 in European funding, the project brings together nine partners from the cultural, tourism, research, and regional development sectors: the Écomusée de l’Avesnois, the Avesnois Tourist Office, the Université Polytechnique des Hauts-de-France, the Pôle de Reconversion, ULB, the Charleroi Tourist Office, Terra Curiosa, the Charleroi Glass Museum, and Igretec (the project lead).
 
Traver(re)se aims to build a shared narrative centered on the tangible and intangible heritage of the glass industry—an industry deeply rooted on both sides of the border. Stretching from Floreffe to Trélon, the project highlights a shared industrial history that evolved independently of administrative boundaries.
 
This shared heritage will be brought to life through five immersive cycling routes, enhanced by geolocation-based digital features, interactive content, and a cultural program designed to offer a fresh perspective on the landscapes and sites that shaped the history of glassmaking.
 
Leveraging its rich collections, extensive archives, and recognized scientific expertise, the Glass Museum will play a pivotal role in shaping the project’s historical narrative. It will also contribute to developing visitor engagement content, creating digital tools, defining routes, and implementing a cultural program designed to bring this cross-border glassmaking heritage to life.
 
This partnership represents a fantastic opportunity to showcase the history of glassmaking, strengthen collaborations with our French partners, and share an exceptionally rich industrial and artistic heritage with the widest possible audience.
