Documentation Centre

Are you working on a project related to glass and would like to consult specialist publications? Or archives? Our documentation centre is at your disposal. Here you will find:

  • General works (history of glass, chemistry of glass, etc.)
  • Specialist works organised by period, region, technique, artist or material (opaline, stained glass, etc.)
  • Journals and conference proceedings.
  •  (Incomplete) collections of archives from the glass industry based in Belgium: Verreries Doyen, Verreries de Familleureux, the Bernard Savaëte Collection, the Jean-Marc Gdalewitch Collection, etc.
  • A collection of postcards.
  • A photographic collection comprising nearly 2,000 photographs digitised at 1,000 dpi on the glass industry and glass art.
  • A film collection on the glass industry in Belgium between 1930 and 1970.

Would you like to consult our collection? The documentation centre is accessible by appointment only. We are currently working on making our bibliographic resources available online. In the meantime, please contact us by email at mdv@charleroi.be, stating:

  • The context and subject of your work/research.
  • Which sources you would like to consult.

The team will then suggest an appointment date and the works will be made available to you. Please note the lead time. Due to a busy schedule, all consultation requests must be submitted at least two to three weeks before the desired consultation period.
NB: the UNIGOBEL collection (Union des Gobeleteries belges) is held at SAICOM. Regarding this collection, please contact saicom@skynet.be
