Jean-François Lemaire fuses the emotion of creation with the history of the earth and humanity, technical research and the power of natural materials. Understanding and conveying the material, and controlling the elements.
Jean-François Lemaire is a French artist.
He trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Dijon where he studied resins, elastomers, metals, cast bronze, stage sets, vitreous paste, and hot and cold glass-making techniques.
Throughout his career, he has participated in many exhibitions in France and Belgium, as well as in China, Norway, Germany and Taiwan.
In 2019, he was commissioned by the City of Troyes to create an urban artwork. The City wanted a sculpture of water lilies to pay tribute to the painter Claude Monet (1840-1926), and proposed a piece that incorporated glass, the colour blue and the movement of water.
In the manner of an alchemist capturing the light, Lemaire transformed the technical act into energy — the result of the fusion of the material and his artistic expression.
Made from rough and transparent crystal paste, the resulting vertical elevation is evocative of the relationship between Heaven and Earth.
Crystal paste, polished, transparent and opaque glass suffused with splinters and granules, interspersed with unexpected touches of colour, constitute the artist’s language.
Time and light are also essential elements of this language: the vibration of the material merges with the mineral evoking fossilised wood, lava and the mystery of fire reminiscent of the folds of the earth’s crust enhanced by the crystal.
A breath of universality and a glimpse of the dawn of the world…
